

Dr. Randy Mark Casstevens, 49, of Brambleton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on June 21, 1976, in Mount Airy, North Carolina, Randy was the beloved son of Linda Casstevens and the late Delmer Casstevens.
Randy was a man defined by his gentle patience, profound dedication to his family, and a quirky sense of humor that brightened the lives of all who knew him.
A brilliant scholar and lifelong learner, Randy earned both a B.S. and an M.S. in Computer Science from North Carolina State University. He was further distinguished as a Presidential Scholar at George Mason University, where he completed his Ph.D. in Computational Social Science. His deep knowledge of coding, paired with his love for creating, was evident throughout his professional and personal life, where he consistently sought to build, innovate, and make life better for those around him.
Randy was also a man of diverse interests and talents. He enjoyed playing the guitar and drums, listening to music, fishing, legos, drawing, and watching Star Wars. He also enjoyed some friendly competition, especially in Pictionary, ping pong, pinball, and, more recently, axe throwing. Randy also cherished the tranquility of being in nature, frequently taking trips to hike in the national parks with his family.
Randy is survived by his loving wife, Erin Cannon, his cherished daughter, Caroline Casstevens, and their two maltipoos, who he adored. He is also survived by his devoted mother, Linda Casstevens; his two siblings, Terry Casstevens and Gloria White; and a host of extended family and friends who will deeply miss his unique presence.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 7, at 2:30 p.m. at the Demaine Life Celebration Center of Loudoun County, 45511 Severn Way, Sterling, VA 20166. Please wear colors or prints that make you feel happy.
