She lived a full life filled with love, quiet strength, resilience and unwavering faith. Above all, she treasured her family and found joy in the simple moments spent with those she loved.
Anyone who knew her likely heard one of her favorite sayings: “my name is Time, and time waits for no one”. Those words became one of her life’s mottos - a gentle reminder that time is a gift from God, meant to be treasured and spent loving others. She lived her life with resilience, wisdom and a deep appreciation for each day she was given.
As a mother, Amelia led by example. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her family and friends. She taught her children that hard work was its own reward. Her children, now adults, say she was the first person they called with good news and the first person they called when things fell apart.
Amelia is survived by her children, Valerie Garcia-Marroquin, Emilie Mendoza, Audrey Garcia, Karolyn Garcia-Otero (Daniel), and Cynthia Garcia-Perez (Tomas); brothers Pasqual (Ray) Duran (Linda), and Vincent Duran; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great- great grandchildren. Amelia is preceded in death by her beloved husband Enemencio L Garcia, and beloved son Joseph B Garcia.
A visitation for Amelia will be held on July 29th, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Mount Auburn Funeral Home, 4101 S. Oak Park Ave. Stickney, IL 60402.
Services will conclude the following day, July 30th, 2026 with a morning visitation beginning at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the funeral home with burial to follow at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
