Benjamin was known to his friends as Ben and affectionately referred to as “Chato” by his family.
Born and raised in the heart of Chicago neighborhood Benjamin was the son of the late Rosalio A Torres and Macrina Briones-Torres and brother of the late David Torres.
Benjamin attended St Ann grade school, was a member of the last graduating class (1990) of Quigley Prepatory Seminary South and was an alumnus of the University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana with a BA in liberal arts.
After college Ben was an employee of Nike Town. From 1997 to 2007 he was the Operations Manager at the mail order business, Cigars Around the World. Since 2007 Ben was employed at Unity Manufacturing as the Sales and Service Manager.
Benjamin was a fan of the Chicago Bears, Bulls and a diehard White Sox fan. He spent numerous years giving back to his community by organizing fundraising events for his block club and St Ann Parish. He was politically active and had worked on and volunteered for numerous political campaigns. Ben was a collector of sports caps and bobble head figures and movie paraphernalia. He was a warm hearted, giving person who loved music, movies and organizing family events.
Benjamin is survived by his loving partner Mary Salazar and his siblings: Maria Concepcion Luna (late, Laureano), Jose Abel (Lisa), Rosalio (Nora), Maria Elena Arciniega (late, Guillermo), Lucinda Figueroa (Richard), Francisco (Maricela), Elia Segura (Heriberto), Oscar (Rosa), Ricardo and Eduardo (Patricia), his numerous nieces and nephews and his god children: Maya Jade Torres and Kayo Hernandez.
