Bernice Tangney, 94, a resident of Loveland, Colorado, passed away on August 25, 2026. Born on November 23, 1931, in Pontiac, Michigan, Bernice’s life was marked by steadfast courage, quiet compassion, and a selfless devotion to those she loved. From the beginning, she understood the meaning of hard work and perseverance—one of 15 children born to Ruth and Daniel Graves—and she carried that strength with her through every season of life.
Bernice was the beloved wife of Emmett and a cherished mother whose care and constancy shaped a large and loving family. She is survived by her children: Ron Riley (Carol), Wanda Riley, Ernie Riley (Cathy), Rodney Riley (Maryanne), Lois Newport, and Ruth Keating (Bill). She was preceded in death by the late Jerry Newport and the late Carol Willer. Bernice’s legacy continues through 37 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren—each a testament to a life poured out generously for others.
She is also survived by her siblings: Ethal Holmes, Daniel Graves, Enoch Graves, Dale Graves, Dennis Graves, and Denise Franco. She was preceded in death by the late Anna Johnson, the late Lois Cooper, the late Betty Roy, the late Margie Mcdonald, the late George Graves, the late Gene Graves, the late Rita Hickey, and the late Jim Graves.
In the everyday comforts of home, Bernice found joy and purpose. Her compassion was often expressed through the simple, faithful acts that make a household warm—baking and cooking for others, crocheting with patient hands, and enjoying old time classic movies and religious movies. In these quiet routines, she offered a steady presence that will be deeply missed and long remembered.
Those who knew Bernice will also remember the affectionate humor and tenderness behind her familiar words: “You are my favorite grandchild.” It was a line that carried her warmth, her closeness, and the way she made each person feel seen and treasured.
