I used to see Dan walking around town. One day on Oak Park Avenue I said hello and we talked for awhile. I also would see him at Stickney Library, where he would be talking to staff or tutoring in a study room. He was always so friendly and interesting to talk to. One day when I was tutoring, after the session, Dan showed me and the young fellow I was tutoring and the fellow's mother a picture and story in a book, maybe Guinness World Records, of the world's tallest man. We talked for quite awhile that day.

We were told he was in the hospital, and we visited him this past Christmas Day. Then in early March we found out from another friend that Dan had passed away. I still can't believe it. Dan, we keep expecting to see you when we walk into Stickney Library!

Love to you and all your family and friends.

I will miss our conversations, he always had important insights of how things work and would show people what he knew ... it was always worth it. He took out his telescope one night and showed me where Venus was in the night sky. I was very impressed by all the information he was able to tell me. His knowledge, loving patience and the fact that he would help everyone is something that will be miss by all Dan had a great heart and loved he will be missed very much by the people he touched in his lifetime.

When I first met Dan I thought he was an odd character but as I got to know him. I realized he wasnt different . He was just being Dan. He had something that many of us wish we still had. " The purity of a child." To see no wrong and the kindness of an open heart, and like a child you couldnt help but like him or love him. I will greatly miss you my friend as will the many people whos lives and hearts you touched.

Dan I will miss my conversations with you, light-hearted, interesting and knowledgeable. You were a true friend to many and a loving son to your parents. I've never heard you say a disparaging word about anyone as you enter the Gates of Heaven I am sure your mom and dad are waiting with (open arms). I can also hear our (Lord) saying job well done Dan. You will be missed your friend Marge Damalas

I work at the Library and met Dan this way. I would like to share here an article about him that we just published in our newsletter:

"In Memoriam Daniel S.

"A dear friend of the Stickney-Forest View Public Library District passed away recently. Dan S. visited the Library almost every single day, until his health prevented it. Dan was kind, intellectual, open, and funny. He was always ready to lend a hand, and he was always bringing in old gadgets to show-and-tell staff and other patrons. He fully embraced the Library’s mission to support life-long learning. Dan will be missed by many."

The photo was taken after Dan won a raffle. He's holding up tickets he won.

Mr. Dan I remember meeting you at Ryan’s party at Mrs. Ramos house. I didn’t really get to know you until three years ago at the Stickney Library. God Blessed me to meet such a beautiful human being with a heart of gold. On my worst days you made me smile with your special expressions. You taught me compassion, kindness, joy, patience, the love of reading & learning, friendship, forgiveness and so much more. May you Rest In Peace our hearts are broken but feel comfort you are not suffering. We will truly miss you Dan . You were never alone we loved you for being so special I will miss talking to you! Mr. Dan you were a great chocoholic .., who doesn’t love chocolate right!
We have another Angel to watch over us Dan miss you sooo much!!
