Found a picture of Ed that makes me smile. This is how I remember him, leading the way on the golf course. I had the pleasure of being his partner one year for the annual Alex and Aldo's tournament. Thanks to his usual strong round, which made up for my rather rough round, we won the tournament. Great golfer and an even better guy.

In Memory of Edward Cervony

Ed was quiet, but always thoughtful and caring.  When the time was right, he’d let you know if he had ‘held back’ on anything and would also instruct you on how to ‘fix it.’

He kept clubs/restaurants/bars going, he moved into his family’s business and kept building it.  He helped start a couple of printing companies and his customer connections and accounting background were instrumental in keeping those new businesses expanding.

For fun, he shared his love of the White Sox and Bulls with friends and customers and those days----especially in the Michael Jordan years---were unbelievably fun and extremely memorable!

Ed also found some time for himself----well, on the golf course you generally weren’t alone---but his love of golf/playing with friends brought him joy.

Unfortunately, once I moved away from the Chicago area and traveled extensively for work, I had very little time to return to Chicago.  I know Ed found marital and family happiness, was able to spend time with his family in the area and continue to be a strong, supportive and loving man.

We will always remember you, Ed.  Thank you for your time and friendship over the years.

This is a very difficult goodbye.  The news of Eddie’s passing feels incredibly arbitrary.  

I have such amazing memories of your son/brother/nephew/partner.  Eddie was giving, funny, loyal, a straight-shooter, and full of life.  The world would be hard pressed to find anyone more passionate or devoted to Frank Sinatra or Neil Diamond’s music.  I’m attaching a couple photos for his library that captures his “Rat Pack” essence: one taken on a New Year’s Eve and the tuxedo shot was for a Corzine fundraiser. 

A bit of a background story on the New Year’s photo:  We made reservations at a hotel that included live music and dancing.  Eddie was nervous because he didn’t “ballroom dance”.  Patty was an accomplished dancer and told him to hold on, and she would make him look like Gene Kelly!  Unfortunately, we lost Patty in 2007 to brain cancer. I wouldn’t be surprised she’s bugging Eddie to register at the Arthur Murray dance studio right now.  

There are no words to capture this grief and loss, but I hope the Cervony family feels the love and support of the Nelson family.  Even though Eddie’s physical presence is gone, I’ll never forget your family and his impact on my life.

Eddie was a mentor of mine during my formative years. Introduced me to Neil Diamond. Made sure I was a dedicated  White Sox fan. Introduced me to the basement bar and pool table. Along with brothers Mike and Paul we spent countless hours learning the finer things in life from Mr C. Eddie will be missed but never forgotten.

When I remember Eddie it will always be with the word "gentleman " because that is what he represented to me. 
Eddie had a dignity about him even playing with his precious grandchildren. 
Whenever we met he showed a graciousness 
that always made me feel welcome.
A brilliant mind that could converse about

It was always Deb and Ed, you never thought.or spoke of one without the other!!! Eddie was a true gentleman and so much fun to be with!!. He had a great positive attitude and found the best in each person! He was my buddy and we have really missed him and Deb. They were a team in most things, generous, loving, family oriented, strong work ethic and enjoying each day. Deb, Kevin and I are so so sorry for you and the kids and Eddie's family!!! You guys always made us feel like part of your family and we cherish those memories! The pain you feel will be diminished by the time you spend with those babies that you love so much!!Wrap them around you and hold them tight!
