John A. Bartlett

John A. Bartlett, 79, of Elmhurst, IL, passed away on July 15, 2025. Born on December 6, 1945, in Oak Park, IL. He was a devoted husband and loving father. He was always a hard worker who took care of his family. If someone was in need, John would be there.

As a young man, he joined the Us Air Force and was stationed in Korea, maintaining communications equipment. With some technical experience, he became an Engineer for many years in the pipe and then lighting industries. He was also in the Auxiliary Police for Berwyn, where he made life-long friends. This experience led him to related opportunities and eventually Security Manager roles at St Joseph and Westlake Hospitals. Always keeping active, he has been Commander for American Legion Post 1941 of LaGrange, IL.

In his spare time, John enjoyed getting together with friends and family for a good meal, celebrations, poker or bingo nights, and even a Cubs or Bears game.

He was married to Sheila Bartlett for 31 years until her passing many years ago. They shared many good years together. His devotion to family included taking care of Sheila and, later, his Mother, Violet, while they were ill until their last day. John leaves behind sons Scott (Harriet) Ortiz and Luke (Pamela) Bartlett. He also leaves behind 12 Grandchildren. Living Siblings include Dawn Kroma, Brent (Gina) Bartlett, and Silvia (Randy) Mohr.

John was a good-natured person throughout his life. He was a friend to all and will be missed.

There will be a Memorial at Mt. Auburn Funeral Home on August 14, 10 am - 1 pm, 4101 South Oak Park Ave, Stickney, IL 60402

John was very involved with the American Legion Post 1941 on the executive committee, as Bingo chairperson and especially as Post Commander. This organization works with local charities, residents, veterans and students in the community to provide funding, scholarships, clothing and assistance.
