

Jose Samuel Alvarado Alfaro, 85, 1042 S. Oakley Ave, Chicago passed away Sunday, January 4th, 2015, peacefully in his sleep in his home. "Samuel", as he was known to his family and friends, was born August 20, 1929 in Peotillos, San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He was the third oldest of nine children to Aurelio Alvarado and Paulina Alfaro de Alvarado.
He leaves a legacy and is known for his generosity, helping others, especially those immigrating to the US, hard work, and commitment to family. He worked in the railway industry, with REA Express and later, Amtrak, from which he retired after 18 years. He enjoyed handiwork, carpentry and doing car repairs in his spare time.
He married Teresa Campos de Alvarado on January 25th, 1956 and they remained married for 46 years until her death on January 1, 2002. He then married Olga Castro in 2006.
He is survived by his children with Teresa: Samuel (Rosa), Oscar (Annie), Elvia Alvarado de Solis (Salvador), Angel (Denise), and Gerardo (Alejandra), thirteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings Cecilia Alvarado de Velasco (Monterrey, Nuevo León, México), Concepción Alvarado de Plunkett (Gonzales, TX), Ramón Chico Alvarado (Mesa, AZ), Carmen Alvarado de Guerra (Monterrey, Nuevo León, México), and Edgardo Alvarado (San Antonio, TX).
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Eduardo, Ramón Grande, and his sister, Dolores.
Wake services will be held Friday, January 9th from 2 to 8pm at Mt. Auburn Funeral Home, 4101 S. Oak Park Ave, Stickney, IL. The funeral mass will be on Saturday, January 10th at 10am at St. Paul Church, 2127 W. 22nd Place, Chicago.
