It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Jože Arko, 75, who passed on January 11, 2018. Always full of life, Joe was known to have a smile on his face and a song at the ready. His beautiful tenor voice was a member of the Mladinski Zbor under P. Vendelin, St. Stephen’s Church Choir, St. George's Choir, SVS Ave Maria Choir, Slovenska Pesem, Zbor Špendov, and he also directed the Prešeren Zbor for many years. Any group of singers who may have gathered was fortunate to have Joe amongst them. Joe was an accomplished musician and a member of many groups including Ansambel Tivoli, Glas Slovenija, Ansambel Heritage, Ansambel Veseljaki, and Zadnja Kapla.

Joe was a Metallurgical Technician at Argonne National Laboratory for over 45 years. His mechanical and technical acumen translated to the Slovenian community and he spent many hours volunteering with projects and needs at the Slovenian Catholic Mission, Franciscan Monastery, SCC Dom and Retreat House. From motors to salvage and brainstorming solutions to unique problems, Joe could be counted on for the answer.

He was a constant at our Dom during Slovenska šola, event setup, Sunday Mass, dinners, picnics and always with a smile, kind word and of course, his jokes. We will never forget his jokes...

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Freda (Logonder), beloved "Ati" of Erika (Steve Falk), predeceased by his son, Philip, and was the adoring Stariata of Mari. He is also survived by his brother John (Marika) Arko, sister-in-law Krista (the late Alojz), his many nieces, nephews, and loyal friends. His sister and 2 brothers preceded him to eternity. His passing leaves an emptiness that can never be filled.

Jože will be dearly missed by anyone who ever met him. His open friendliness made strangers feel at home wherever he was. On behalf of the Dom, we extend our deepest condolences to the entire family of naš Jože.
