Throughout his long life, Leonardo met each season with steady resolve and a quiet courage that never sought attention, yet never failed to make a difference. He was hard-working and resilient in the ways that truly matter—showing up, carrying on, and doing what needed to be done. Alongside that strength lived a warm sense of humor and a receptive spirit that welcomed others as they were. In time, his wisdom became a guiding presence to those who knew him, and his example remained deeply inspirational and dearly beloved.
Leonardo is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Bertha; He is survived by his children, Juanita (Marcus) Beltran, Antonio (Irma) Ruiz, Alechia (Dan) Fink, and Peter (Denise) Ruiz; Dear brother of Rosa Ruiz Avilan and Ramon Ruiz and he was preceded in death by his son, the late Leonardo Ruiz Jr. and brother Pedro "Pepe" Ruiz. He was the proud grandfather of 13 and a great-grandfather.
Leonardo found joy in life’s simple pleasures: watching the Cubs and The Andy Griffith Show which brought him uncontrollable laughter. He also loved playing bingo and word search puzzles. He enjoyed Italian beef sandwiches and homemade tamales. He never ran out of sharing stories with his family whether they were fact or fiction. These familiar comforts, shared and savored, reflected the steady gratitude and good nature that marked his days.
