May 8, 1922 - April 23, 2020
Born near Memphis, Tennessee, Martha was a country gospel singer who toured and sang on Southern radio stations in the 1950s. In later decades Martha sang and played guitar in her Berwyn group, Gospel Truth Singers, along with her husband, Emil Bohacz. They toured and performed locally, to the delight of many. Martha’s voice was sometimes compared to her own personal favorite, Loretta Lynn.
A lifelong member of Emanuel Bible Church in Berwyn, Martha was admired for her musical talent and so much more. For many years, she helped with ministry outreach at Faith Chapel, the church’s tape recording service. With boundless energy, Martha helped with little kids and read stories in Emanuel’s Take-A-Break child care service.
She is survived by her sons and their wives, Joseph and Arlene Mefford, Mike and Trish Happel-Bohacz, and Monte and Trish Bohacz. She has grandchildren and many great grandchildren, who adored her. She helped many of them take their first steps in life. Martha had fans of all ages. She even played guitar and sang for her nursing home friends at her last birthday a year ago, at age 97.
