You will always hold a special place in my heart. From the very start we had a special bond. You were a very big part of who i am today. Now, i know i have another angel looking down on on me. You were the rock in the family, no matter what Brandon and I could always count on you for anything we needed and much more. You along with mom taught me how to be the strong, hard working woman I am today. You showed me many times I can do anything I put my mind too. I will never forget your laugh or your smile, or how much you love to dance, not to mention the way you would chase the grandkids around and tickle us til we cryed. You were so much more than a grandmother, you were a best friend. You will be forever loved and missed. But never forgotten. I know we will meet at the gates of heaven one day! Rest in pease Grandma!  You have always been one of the most influential women in my life that have shaped me into the young man that I am today. I can remember as a 4 yr old, You taking our small family into your home when we didnt have anywhere to go. You always encouraged us to do well in school and often times were the one paying us for "A's"on our report card,which I took advantage of! Your home always had an open door policy and I'll never forget the countless afternoons Shannon and I spent at your house after school while Mom was running her own business. 

Your work ethic and desire to succeed was always admired growing up and will continue to encourage me throughout life to always do my best. 

I know in my heart of hearts you are at peace and rejoicing in heaven with Mom and Grandaddy! 

 You'll always be remembered by many and remain in my heart until the day we meet again on the streets of gold.

Anna Ruth,

Such a beautiful name, and one that she never wanted to be called.  She became "Ann" at an early age, probably when she was 21.

 A man can count his blessing if he is fortunate enough to have a sister older than him to guide and advise him as he is growing up.  Lucky me, I had four older sisters, one of them being Anna Ruth.  It's still hard for me to call her Ann.

From the day I was born until I reached adulthood, she took special interest in me, taught me things I still use to this day.  Oddly enough, as I was growing up, I didn't pay a lot of attention to the kindness and love she showed me...only as I look back can I see what an powerful impact she had on my character development.

 As I matured, and became the man she helped me become did the roles sometimes get reversed.   It was unusal for me to be giving her advice...but, often she would call and ask my opinion.  Mostly about how to deal with teenagers.  Not that I had any of my own at the time, but, because I was a teacher and a principal and she thought I may have some nifty ideas on how to deal with them.  I often wondered about that..

Over the last 20-25 years, as we both grew into the later part of life, we saw each other very few times.  Usually at family gatherings, weddings, and sadly funerals.  I do recall a phone call she made to me in 1990.  I had just received my doctoral degree and she called to say how extremely proud she was of me.  That call meant a lot to me.

It is with a heavy heart that I come now to say goodbye to my Big Sister, Anna Ruth, such a beautiful name and such a wonderful person.

My sister Ann,

My sister Ann and I grew up as "middle children", in a family of six siblings.  We were the middle girls with two brothers, one older and one younger, who served as book ends to hold the four girls together.  In our young days we lived in neighborhoods, where children attended church, school and played in the neighborhood together.  It was a good time, good family, and many happy days of memories. At times we "plotted" against the other girls and got into other mischief. One most poignant memory was on Ann's 7th (I think) birthday Grandmother Bennett had given her a small red and blue purse as a gift, she was so happy with her gift and could not understand why everyone was so sad and the neighbors had gathered around to listen to our radio.  It was December 7,1941.  Each year as we recall that day I remember her with that little red purse for her birthday gift. She was always smarter than me in school, got better grades, and NEVER had to retake Algebra, as I finally passed with the help of my older brother, Bill. After finishing school she moved to Atlanta with her friend Addie.  They shared an apartment and became "city girls".  We visited a few times and had picnics at Piedmont Park.  Atlanta was like another country to us and our only transportation was the Greyhound Bus.  She was successful in her job at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, as she was in all occupations she undertook, she gave her all to her employer.  While living in Atlanta, she was swept off her feed by a guy by the name of Andy Simons, who sent her milkshakes because she was too thin and roses on a daily basis.  They were soon married and moved to Jacksonville, Florida where Julie became a part of the family,Jan joined them and then Karen.  When we would visit in Florida, they were very gracious and always made us feel like royalty  They subsequently moved back to Atlanta and I can't imagine what her challenging life was like, with three children and again she was working at Rich's. She never seemed to have time for Ann.  
 
Ann gave her life to Christ at an early age at Southwest Baptist Church, where in later years she served as Secretary to the Pastor for a short period of time.  She shouldered burdens I know were hard to carry,. few of us would have the courage that she had to face each day with her attitude. As with all of us, some of her life's journey was long and hard, but she faced it with an unfailing spirit.  Psalm 23:  God's goodness and mercy did follow her all the days of her life, and now she can dwell in a place that he prepared for her forever "Safe in the Shepherd.s Arms: and know the peace that only He can give.
 
Her spirit lives on in all of us who knew and loved her, we are better because of the courage in life she showed and could learn from her uncomplaining spirit. 
 
To Jan, who will have many stars in her crown for her unfailing love and devotion she gave to her Mother

We've been friends for the past 17 years, for the last seven we have spent almost every day together. I've had the great pleasure to really know and understand you better than most. We spent many hours talking, laughing and making the most of your final days here with us. I will miss you and think of you often as you have become a big part of my live. I will always admire your drive for success,  love of people, and most of all your fight for self preservation. You fought a great battle to the end and I am greatful that I was able to help comfort you in your struggle. Although you are no longer here with us in our house, you will always be near in our hearts. As long as we live, you will live in us and in all the people that you have helped and touched throughout your life. May you rest in peace and rejoice in Heaven with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I am so sorry about Aunt Ruthie. She was a very special lady. I have many memories from my childhood and visiting you all in Virginia. She was also a very important part of my young adulthood. I know you did a great job taking care of her and will mis her beyond words.

G-Maw, You are a fighter that's for sure! I loved being able to spend the last seven years with you. I'm so thankful to have had you in my life and even more grateful that you were able to meet your great grandson, Dallas.
We have lost a beautiful woman but God has gained a beautiful Angel. My guardian Angel. I love you Grandma!  I sure am going to miss not being able to see you, but my mind is at ease knowing you are not suffering anymore. Rest in Peace Gmaw, I will see you in heaven!

Dear G-Ma, Through the six years I have watched you battle your diseases. You have suffered, but you fought every step of the way! My mom took you in when you needed her most, and by watching you two for some time I now have a new found love for my mother. I would take care of her as she did you. Grandma I will miss you until we meet again!

My Dearest Mother, I am so missing you! If my tears could build a stairway and my cherished memories a lane I'd walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again. You have always been there for me no matter what. You taught me the value of life and family. Thank you MOM! Through these past 10 years of suffering with Alzheimers and Parkinsons I know you experienced lots of hardships, now my Beautiful Mother is another Angel and will not be suffering anymore. Rest in Peace and until we see each other again your memory will always be my treasure.
