She was born on March 12, 1935, in Mineral Bluff, Georgia.
Barbara was a woman of remarkable strength with a quick wit that could brighten any room. She believed in doing things her way, and those who knew her best understood that once her mind was made up, there was little changing it. Beneath her strong exterior, however, was a heart overflowing with love and generosity. She would do absolutely anything for the people she loved, always putting family first and offering her support whenever it was needed.
Those closest to Barbara also knew one unmistakable sign that they had pushed her patience just a little too far—if she began humming or softly singing Amazing Grace, it was time to reconsider their choices. It was one of the many endearing traits that made her uniquely herself and left lasting memories that her family will forever cherish.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Bertha and James Bailey; husband, Hervey Henson; and her siblings, James E. Bailey, Charles G. Bailey, Ruth Bailey Harper, and George H. Bailey.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving daughter, Gayle Stapleton; her grandson, Jason B. Cannon (Ann-Marie); her beloved great-grandchildren, Victor Cannon, Victoria Cannon, Jose Rivera, and Chris Rieffel; one sister-in-law, Lillian Bailey; and all whose lives were touched by her love, laughter, and beautiful spirit. The love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Visitation of family and friends will be held at Horis A. Ward - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281 on July 25, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A celebration of her life will take place at Ward's Chapel immediately following visitation. Services will conclude with a graveside committal, approximately 4:00 pm, at Fairview Memorial Gardens | 164 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.
