Betty was born in Ashville, North Carolina to the late Marjorie and Paul Sherlin, Sr. on August 20, 1933. She lived in the Atlanta area for fifty-five years where she retired from the DeKalb County School System after many years of service. Betty loved spending time with family and was an avid baseball fan. Her favorite team was the Atlanta Braves. Betty was loved dearly and will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Marjorie and Paul Sherlin, Sr. and beloved husband, Mr. James Thomas Self, Betty was preceded in death by three sisters, Ernestine, Pauline, and Mary Frances; and four brothers, Paul, George, Bill, and Charles. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Vicki Self Shead (Chris Winkler) and Tricia Self Navarro (Carlos); four grandchildren, Avery Shead, Thomas Navarro, Allison Shead, and Davis Navarro; and three sisters, Joanna Taylor, Marjorie Moore, and Patsy Holt.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Fairview Memorial Gardens, 164 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, GA 30281. Rev. Greg Sweatt, officiating.
