Bonnie met Pete at Fulton High School where they were both students. On October 22, 1960, after a short courtship, Bonnie married her Marine! They moved to Camp Lejeune, NC for a short time then to Forest Park, IL where they had their first son Tony in 1962. From there they moved to Albany, GA where they purchased their first home. As a devoted Marine wife, there were several moves. After IL they went to Albany, GA, Woodbridge, VA, Clarkston, GA, then back to Albany, GA where Pete retired from the Marines. Their civilian years were spent In Cleveland, TN, before they settled in Ellenwood, GA, where they stayed for 23 years- the longest either of them had ever managed to stay in one place without getting the itch to move! In 2003 they found their dream home in Williamson, GA.
During Bonnie's professional life, she seemed to have always worked with money (she sure knew how to spend it!). She worked for Fort Belvoir Credit Union, First GA Bank, and many years at Ross Lane and Associates. Outside of work, Bonnie had a creative side that brought her great joy. One of her favorite hobbies was beading. She loved designing beautiful jewelry for herself and others. Her intricate beadwork was a true reflection of her patience and attention to detail. Bonnie also had a passion for macramé, creating stunning pieces that showcased her artistic flare and love for hands-on craftsmanship. Bonnie was the embodiment of elegance, always a classy lady who carried herself with a natural charm.
Bonnie’s favorite place on earth was St. Maarten NA, where she made many lifelong friends and memories. The days were spent by the pool or at jewelry stores and the nights were spent putting money in the slot machines. Bonnie loved spending time with her family, especially the babies. Family dinners were a highlight in the Odom house. The conversations were often filled with humor, stories, and plenty of playful teasing as Bonnie’s quick wit and laughter could always make everyone smile. These cherished dinners were never just about the food-they were about making memories and enjoying each other’s company, with Bonnie at the heart of it all.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Sheila Newton for being a loyal friend for many years. Bonnie lived life to the fullest and embraced every moment with strength. She was a fighter all the way to the very end as she faced challenges with resilience and determination. Her absence leaves a void that can never be filled and her love, laughter, and warmth that she brought to our lives will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Though she may not be with us anymore, the lessons she taught us and the love she gave will remain in our hearts forever.
