Charles Harry Coleman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, was born on June 2, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia, to his loving mother, Sara Jerlyn Ryder. He peacefully departed this life on September 1, 2026, in Conley, Georgia.
Charles proudly served in the United States Navy, where he developed a lasting appreciation for naval history. He especially enjoyed learning about the history of naval ships and sharing his knowledge and interest with others.
Following his military service, Charles dedicated 37 years of his life to the Atlanta Gas Light Company before retiring. He took great pride in his work and in the many years he spent serving his community.
Charles had a simple appreciation for the things that brought him joy. He loved cheering on the Atlanta Braves and could often be found relaxing on his front porch, keeping an eye on his neighborhood and enjoying the world around him. His presence was familiar and comforting to those who knew him, and his quiet way of enjoying life will be deeply missed.
Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Sara Jerlyn Ryder; his beloved wife, Ollie Sue Coleman; his granddaughter, Beth Stewart; and his sister, Babara Roeder.
He leaves to cherish his memory his granddaughter, Sherrie Mechell Carpenter (Johnny); stepdaughter, Deborah Rhindress; great-granddaughters, Mallory Strawn, Emily Sue Carpenter, and Ashley Carpenter; niece, Terri Roeder; and many great-nieces and great-nephews, along with other extended family members and loved ones.
Charles leaves behind a lifetime of memories, stories, and moments that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His dedication to his family, his service to his country, and the simple joys he found in life will be remembered with love and gratitude.
May he rest peacefully, knowing that he was loved and will be deeply missed.
