David was born on May 15th, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia as the younger and only sibling to Al Tilley. They spent their younger years growing up in Hapeville, Georgia but migrated to Stockbridge, Georgia in 1969 following the sudden passing of their father, Alonzo. David remained around Stockbridge for the majority of his life, always staying in close proximity to his mama, who he loved dearly.
David was known for being a hard-working Concrete Finisher who eventually went on to run his own small contracting business, "Tilley Concrete" in the early 2000's. In this field is where he met Cristy Tilley (née Daley) whom he married in 1996 and they welcomed their first and only child, Olivia Tilley in 1998.
Among his many skills and hobbies were playing pool, rooting for the Falcons & Dawgs, fishing, and playing cards and chess. David always found time to do these things with his daughter Olivia, always putting her happiness as the priority.
David never met a stranger - he was always a friendly, generous and outgoing man with a mellow, gentle spirit. He was always inquisitive and never stopped learning throughout his life. History was his favourite subject and could spend hours discussing anything from the Civil War to WWII.
David's battle with lung cancer ended peacefully with his daughter and brother by his side. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and nursing staff. Despite his situation, David kept his unique and playful sense of humor until the very end.
David is survived by his brother, Al Tilley and his daughter, Olivia Tilley.
A small graveside service will be held at Forrest Hills Cemetery in Forest Park, Georgia on Thursday, September 24th at 1:00p.m.
