Born in June of 1957 in Decatur, GA , Don was the son of the late Neal J. Wells and Doris Wells. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Wells, his sister, Marilyn Ashley, and his grandsons.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Wells of Stockbridge, GA; his daughter, Stephanie (Jason) Briggs of Kansas City, KS; his daughter, Patricia (Jake) Bunger of McDonough, GA; his son, James (Amanda) Wells of McDonough, GA; his former daughter in law Jennifer (Justin) Aguina of Social Circle, GA; and his brother, Jack (Kay) Wells of Jackson, GA; his cherished grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and friends who were blessed to know and love him.
His greatest passion was his faith in Jesus Christ. Don loved the Lord with his whole heart and gave his life to serving in his church. He especially cherished his time teaching children through Awana and Children’s Church, believing there was no greater investment than helping young hearts know the love of Christ. He reflected a generous, and serving heart, sharing the Gospel and his laughter everywhere he went. His life told a story of an imperfect man following after a wonderful God with everything he had.
Don believed that whatever was worth doing was worth doing well. He enjoyed cruising, loved learning about history, and after mowing the lawn could often be found relaxing with an episode of Jeopardy! A lifelong sports fan, Don faithfully cheered for the Georgia Bulldogs, Georgia Tech basketball, the Atlanta Braves, and enjoyed following NASCAR.
He loved sitting beside his beloved wife, Shirley—his “Princess”—watching Hallmark movies together. He found joy in life’s simple moments and treasured the time spent with those he loved.
Although Don’s absence leaves an immeasurable void, his family rejoices in the promise that because of his faith in Jesus Christ, this is not goodbye—it is simply “until we meet again.”
