He served honorably in World War II, stationed mostly in Cairns, Australia, as a Technician Fourth Grade Company D 411th Engineer Special Shop Battalion. There he built landing craft and was awarded; APTO Medal,Philippine Liberation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorius Unit Award and WWII Victory Medal.
In civilian life he worked for Remington Rand Corporation, fixing and repairing any machine that misbehaved, and then retired after 18 years from the Atlanta Airport where he supervised and maintained the lighting on the runways. Under his watch the airport won recognition from Pilot's and other organizations.
He was married and divorced from Betty Joyce Brittain. Together they had five children; Linda Joyce Aboshamaa of Bakersfield, California, Alice Gay Becker of Stockbridge, Georgia, Andrew Earl Jones of Covington, Georgia, Justina Leigh Brittain of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Diana Louise Thompson of Denver, Colorado. Gardening, square dancing, nature, fishing, reading, following the Atlanta Braves, serving others and time with his family were his loves. He was the best whistler ever and we have great memories of him whistling while he worked.
He loved The Lord and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was blessed with a curious mind and a great memory all of his days.We are comforted to know he is with his loved ones on the other side of the Veil and rejoice that he can reunite with his mother who died while he was in the Service. We treasure our blessings from him and appreciate the righteous desires of his heart.
