Earl Young

Earl David Young, age 84, formerly of Decatur, GA passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the home of his oldest granddaughter in Covington, GA where he resided following his progressive decline with dementia.

Earl was born on Wednesday, September 20, 1939, just following the start of World War II as the fourth child to Otis Pleamon (O.P.) and Era Estelle Mitchell Young in Decatur, GA. Raised in the house his father built, where he lived until 2013, Earl grew into a man with a bit of a wild side and a zest for life.

Earl married his first wife in 1959 and became a father in 1960 and again in 1962. He retired in 2002 and suffered a stroke in 2005 but was a resilient fighter who was able to overcome many of the challenges he was faced with and continued to live on his own for many years.

Once the ways of the world had tamed him and he finally settled down, Earl was a caring man who loved his family, and he would give his last penny to help out a loved one.

Earl enjoyed spending time with his family and loved to go fishing. He loved his daughters immensely and had the greatest sense of pride in each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, O.P. and Era Young; his sister, Sarah Smith; his wife, Carole Heard, and their granddaughter, Ashley Heard. Earl is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Tim Freeman of Greensboro, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Young and Ricky Robbins of Greensboro, GA; brother, Thomas Young of Stockbridge, GA; sister, Annette Calcote of Coldspring, TX; sister, Mary Williams of Conyers, GA; sister, Kimberly Young of Covington, GA; grandchildren: Starlette Freeman, Kevin Freeman, Dylan Robbins, Taylor Mote, and Mckenzie Mote; great-grandchildren: Kalani, Addilyn, and Roman; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge, GA, on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 11:00am EST.
