On December 5, 1929 Sue was born to Bennie and Sally Ruth Craft in the small town of Elberton, Georgia. She was one of nine children and was fondly called Sue Baby. She graduated from Rock Branch High School in 1947 and soon after married her beloved husband of 70 years, Thomas “Tommy” or “Paw Paw” Bowers. Together Tommy and Sue moved to Atlanta to start their new adventure together and raised two daughters, Connie and Pam. Sue retired from the Atlanta Gas Light Company after many years of service.
Sue was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother and spent much of her free time volunteering at the Veterans Foreign Wars organization (VFW) as well as other volunteer organizations. Sue was an avid bowler and was a member of several leagues primarily at Suburban Lanes in Decatur, Georgia where she was honored several times. Sue also loved to crochet and often presented loved ones with her hand made booties.
Sue was best known for her compassionate loving demeanor – always kind and always happy to see you. She was a beautiful person from the inside out and to have known her was to have known love. Sue touched hundreds of lives and was lovingly called Granny by most. Having known Granny was an honor and life changing.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Bowers; her daughter, Pam Thomason; her grandson, Jason Thomason; her son-in-law, Mitchell O’Berry; and her fur baby, Missy B.
She is survived by her daughter, Connie O’Berry; grandsons, Glenn Hadaway (Theresa) and Ricky Hadaway (Barbie); great granddaughters, Chelsea Hadaway (Joshua) and Haley Burroughs (Trey); sister, Peggy Gaines; and many nieces and nephews.
