Evelyn Powell Harris

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 28 at 3pm at Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel, Stockbridge, GA. Alec Ward will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1-3pm, prior to the service. Burial will be at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA on Friday, August 29 at 9:30am.

Mrs. Harris was a native resident of Atlanta, where she attended Girls High and volunteered as a Gray Lady at Georgia Baptist Hospital. An active member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Stone Mountain, she enjoyed travel, especially numerous trips to the Holy Land. She imparted her love of Atlanta and its rich history to her family, taking her grandchildren on frequent field trips to some of her favorite local sights, particularly the Cyclorama in Grant Park where she grew up.

Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her late husband, Jabe Harris, Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Harris Jones and husband, Dr. Max Jones of Big Canoe, GA; Patricia Harris Simmons of Atlanta, GA. Three grandchildren, James Harrison Simmons III and wife Kasey of Jasper, GA; Shannon Jones Crews and husband Sean of Fort Mill, SC; Amanda Simmons Williams and husband Curtis of Powder Springs, GA. Great-grandchildren include Charles Alexander Crews and Isabel Parker Crews; Andrew Spencer Williams, Evelyn Marie Williams, and Matthew Christian Williams. She is also survived by her sister, Annette Quinton and husband Jim of Talking Rock, GA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
