She was born on June 26, 1948, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late Odis Purvis and Cornelia Edenfield Purvis.
Jackie was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was a loving and faithful wife, sharing 54 wonderful years of marriage with her late husband, Harold Evans. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and tradition while raising their two children, Kathy and John.
Jackie had a passion for cooking and was especially known for her delicious Southern meals and desserts. She found joy in sharing recipes and ensuring that no one went without a warm meal—especially during the holidays. Each year, she spent countless hours preparing traditional holiday feasts, not only for her family but also for elderly individuals, neighbors, and anyone in need of a place to gather and eat.
She also had a love for shopping and a special fondness for collecting roosters and hens, building a cherished collection over the years. Jackie took great pride in her home, especially her yard, which she beautifully adorned with flowers and plants. She often spent peaceful moments sitting on her porch in her rocking chair or admiring her garden from the kitchen window.
Jackie was known for her giving spirit, fairness, and attention to detail. She believed in treating everyone equally and was intentional about giving thoughtfully and evenly. A true perfectionist, she valued order, care, and never wasted anything.
In addition to her parents, Jackie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold Evans; her sisters, Clara Mae Cleveland, Mona Gail Purvis, and Betty Jo McGovern.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Kathy Mahoney (Terry) of Jonesboro, Georgia; her son, John Evans; her grandchildren, Coty Mahoney (Courtney) of Acworth, Georgia, Taylor Mahoney of Stockbridge, Georgia, Dustin Evans (Lainee) of McDonough, Georgia, and Kelsey Evans of McDonough, Georgia; as well as four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Jackie will be remembered for her warm heart, generous spirit, and the love she poured into her family, her home, and her community. Her legacy of kindness, tradition, and devotion will live on in all who knew and loved her.
