
He is survived by his wife, Doyce Gilmore; his children, Richard Gilmore and Linda Christopher; his grandchildren, Troy Lee and Shellie Williams; and great grandchildren, Haley and Peyton Williams. Jim Gilmore grew up in Birmingham, AL, married Carolyn Jones then served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. After the war he attended refrigeration school in Chicago, and then he moved to Atlanta and worked for Carrier Atlanta (AirCond). After the death of Carolyn in 1996, Jim remarried Doyce Perry. His interest included the Atlanta Braves, the Georgia Bulldogs, and golf.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Jim will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Ellenwood, Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 1:30pm, with Rev. Claire Yoder officiating. Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Fairview Memorial Gardens. Friends are invited to visit with the family, Tuesday afternoon from 5-8pm at Horis A. Ward-Fairview Chapel funeral home, 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge. In lieu of flowers you may make donations to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 984 Panola Rd, Ellenwood, GA.
