James “Pete” Page of Stockbridge passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. He was born on July 27, 1940 in Canton, Cherokee County, GA to Clarence and Mamie Gazaway Page. He grew up in the Canton area with one brother and two sisters, met and married the love of his life, Sue Ellis in June 1958. They were married for 65 years and had three sons, Danny, Kip, and Marty. Pete was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue; his son, Danny; his brother, Otis; his sisters, Shirley Page Wood, Glenda Page Hayes; and his parents.
To support his family, Pete held down several jobs over the years. Early in life he was a milkman, worked at Lockheed, and finally ended his career as a truck parts salesman, working for Evans Toyota, General GMC, Nalley and Diesel Injection.
Pete held down second job for much of his life. He was a pastor. This job was his true calling and he dearly loved his church life and family. He pastored several churches, most recently, Gospel Light Baptist Church in Jackson. He officiated many weddings, including one for each of his sons; he delivered hundreds and hundreds of messages to his congregations; and he was especially gifted when it came to end of life, home going celebrations.
When he wasn’t working, Pete loved old time gospel music, playing the guitar, old cars, his family and anything Miss Sue cooked.
Papete is survived by his sons, Kip (Wanda) and Marty Page; daughter in law, Lisa Page; grandchildren, Rhys, Shelby, Brett, Ben and Courtney; great grandchildren, Payton, Shaun, Agnes, Walker, Gunnar, Memphis and a soon to be new addition in August.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
