

JoAnne LaVeron Glenn Swinger was born on May 31, 1941 to Authur Joseph Glenn, Sr. and Jerry Ella Moreland in Atlanta, Georgia. JoAnne graduated from Turner High School in Atlanta, Georgia, Bronner Brothers School of Cosmetology as a Cosmetologist and Rome College in Alcoa, Tennessee. JoAnne was also an LPN.
JoAnne was a faithful member to Mt. Gerizim Church of God Holiness. There, she was the Outreach Committee President. In earlier years, she was a faithful member of various churches within the National Convention of the Churches of God Holiness. JoAnne worked closely with the Youth Auxilliary, Sunshine Band, Women’s Willing Workers and other auxiliaries at Bethlehem Church of God Holiness of Atlanta, Georgia, Mt. Zion Church of God Holiness of Alcoa, Tennessee, Beulah Church of God Holiness of Knoxville, Tennessee, Mt. Moriah Church of God Holiness of Detroit, Michigan and Mt. Gerizim Church of God Holiness of Atlanta, Georgia. JoAnne was known for her skills as a seamstress making many wedding dresses and various attire for the saints throughout the Convention.
JoAnne traveled with Bishop K. H. Burrus and Bishop T. P. Burrus to various churches throughout the National Convention of the Churches of God Holiness. She sang with the Joybells. JoAnne also sang with the Atlanta Breast Cancer Choir.
JoAnne is one of the original founders of MOP Nuisance & Abatement Program in Detroit, Michigan. JoAnne worked with Alexander Gore on his campaign for Governor of Tennessee. She was Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary for a short period. She also worked for Bronner Bros. and worked on various political campaigns. JoAnne was a very active community activist.
JoAnne was well-known for her love of helping others. She was also well-known for her gifts for any occasion. If you needed help, she did her very best to meet your needs.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Joseph Glenn, Sr. and Jerry Ella Moreland Glenn and brother, Arthur Joseph Glenn, Jr. “Bae Brother.” She is survived by three children, Harralyn Swinger-Rawls (Reverend James, Jr.), Alphretta Ellis and Stan Glenn (Carolyn); four siblings, Sheryl Ford (Rodney), Elder Thomas E. Glenn (Angela), Gail Elaine Jordan (Clinton) and La June Johnson; grandchildren, Angelica White (Vencent), Jerrie Thomas, Alexandria Swinger, Christopher Ellis, Bernard Bonner, Jr., West Glenn, Hope Glenn, Jon Rawls (Gazmen), Nathaniel Rawls (NaKole), James Rawls, III, Shannen Palmore (Qunetin) and Jackie Lucas; great-grandchildren, Michyia, Ahmira, Micheal, Jr., Mikiel, August, Vencent, Jr., Von, Jonathan, Jr., Jamesia, Nobel and Nolan; godchildren, Darvin Glenn (Lisa), Renee Shields (George), Cheryl Stephens, Carolyn Battles, Tiffany Goodman, Rhonda Thompson, Dionna Bailey (Charles) and Corey Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Visitation for JoAnne will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2022 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Mt. Gerizim Church of God Holiness, 1003 Fayetteville Road, Southeast, Atlanta, Georgia 30316.
A Celebration of Life for JoAnne LaVeron Glenn Swinger will occur on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at First Iconium Baptist Church, 542 Moreland Avenue, Southeast, Atlanta, Georgia 30316. Interment will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
