I ran across John's business card today. I worked with John at Kawneer Co. Back in the 1980s. What a Great guy. He took me sailing a couple of times in a day sailer that he built. Condolences to Jean and family. 

He will be missed by all of us at Henry Vision Center. We loved him dearly. We called him our Candy Man. He always stopped in with Werther's Candy for us.

I am so late !!  I just found this and realized that I am so late!!  I corresponded with your father after meeting him at a Naval Reunion of his in Charleston South Carolina.  After he left he had called the hotel to ask for my email because we were both in the Navy, but of course at different times, we had a great discussion .  He was very special to me because of his kindness, intelligence and sincerity of his family, friendship & our world.   I am so sorry for your loss and I can't wait to meet him again in Heaven! Uncle Johnny, even though I didn't get to spend a lot of time with you, you definitely had a lasting impact on me. You were such a loving, sweet, and kind man. There is no doubt in my mind, you were one of the most Christ-like people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. You were gentle, loving, compassionate and as good natured as good can be. John was one of the few friends I have known with exceptional qualities.I was lucky to work with him.

Oh my Daddy, My Daddy how I will miss you.  You brought me up more than being a girl. You taught me that whatever I put my mind to, I could accomplish even being a girl. Dear Jean and family,  My thoughts and prayers are with you in this sudden loss of such a great man, John (Uncle Sonny).  Through the years I was told many amazing stories about him and how much he was admired and loved.  It was a joy and pleasure to have finally met him and Jean on a visit to them in 2013 for a few days with his nephew, Tom, along with all the phone conversations since then.  Will always cherish and remember fondly that visit and conversations and what an honor it has been to have known him.  He will be missed.  My deepest sympathies.

A southern man who grew up on a farm, became a sailor, served in the U.S. Navy, and was a passionate draftsman, was one of the most interesting persons I knew... and I had the honor of being his grandson. 

It was always a unique and special situation just to be in his presence. He would share his knowledge and orchestrate meaningful conversation that I'll take with me through my life. 

I admired how he would meet others, even general workers such as tellers, storeclerks, and waiters, he would introduce himself, take & remember their name, and open up his sense of humor. Always genuine and sincere with his signature twist.

The way he built and maintained his life was definitly a work of a perfectionist. The ongoing lists of projects and goals he would tackle that would overwhelm a young man like me, certainly leaves me with an expected acheivement to aspire.

A life well done Granddaddy, I salute you John D. Cornwell Jr.

Your love will last forever.

MR JOHN will be missed coming in the CVS pharmacy as he often did.  What a nice man to have had the pleasure of knowing him and his wife Alma.

You will truly be missed, we loved you coming into CVS and spoiling us with your favorite caramel candies! And having our little chats!

John was a dedicated Christian, a devoted husband & to me a valued friend. I will cherish my many memories with he & Jean. The stories! The knowledge that he shared. I have known my share of " know it all's" but not of his type. He truly did know it all. Ask him a question & he knew the answer. He was not pompous, he was just smart. Learned smart! I gained much knowledge of many subjects from my friend John. And John loved Bethel. I am extremely Honored to be one of " The Bearers of The Cross" of his & Jean's choosing & I plan to cherish their designation. The sharing of figs, touring the workshop, just catching up with them. Oh oh oh my love of and for them! True loves, true friends, true Christians! My love for both of you will be forever! I love All of you dearly...Paul & Judy... Please remember that.

My father and John served together in the submarine service after WWII. After Dad passed John kept in touch with me and my mother. Such a kind man. He will be missed. Oars down, Sailor.  RIP.

Words can't express how I truly feel hearing the news about Mr. Cornwell. Mr. Cornwell was such a thoughtful and caring man; he loved his wife unconditionally, agape love in constant action. Mr Cornwell absolutely knew the Lord no doubt. I will miss him coming in the bank, bringing us candy and cake, I will miss our spiritual talks and his encouraging words. May heaven embrace him with angel wings, and may the God of peace and healing comfort the family in this time of bereavement. Mr. John Douglas Cornwell Jr take your rest, I salute you and thank you for being a friend of mine!!!!

As I lay here tonight with a heavy heart, I ask that everyone please keep our family in your prayers. The lord called home my granddad and he gained his beautiful pair of wings this morning. You will forever be in my heart and always be missed. RIP GRANDY! Spread those beautiful wings and FLY HIGH, for now you are in heaven and no longer in pain.  Once again back to your youthful, crazy, funny, loving, goofball self. Keep that joy! Until we meet again.. I love you so much!

We are so sad to say goodbye to a great man, good friend and veteran. He was always so kind to my dad and I really appreciated that. We are grateful for the years of knowing him thru Bethel UMC and watching him take such good care of Jean. He has been an example in many quiet ways to all of us. Thank you for sharing him and Jean with us.

I am heartbroken at this devastating loss.  For the past several years, I have spoken to and corresponded with John and his lovely Jean, although we have never met in person.  John and my father were great friends and shipmates many years ago and they reconnected via the internet in early 2000.  When my father passed away suddenly in 2002, John remained in touch with me, offering to stay connected as my '2nd Father' and he shared his generous heart, advice, and kind spirit with me and my family ever since.  He left me a message on Saturday night, calling me, as always, his 'adopted daughter' and giving me a health update on Jean. I am thankful I was able to speak with him just two days before that call, and  I'm certain I will keep that message on my phone for a long time.  When Ginger called me on Monday, my heart broke.  Your father and grandfather was truly one of a kind.  He wrapped his loving arms around me and my family during a very difficult time, and he never let go. I will miss him every day.  I am so sorry not to be able to attend his service, but I will go to my church here in Philadelphia, and I will honor him and his amazing spirit and joy for life.  I will never forget the love and grace he brought to me, and to my family.  Love, peace and all of God's blessings to all of you, and to his beautiful bride.  He spoke of his love and admiration for all of you - every time we spoke.  With so much love, Gloria

Sincere condolences to the Cornwell family.  Mr. Cornwell was such a pleasant man with a sweet spirit and a great sense of humor. His presence here on earth will be missed.
May God manifest his love through caring friends and family at this time and in the days to come.

It always amazed me, having four children of his own, how he still took the time to check in on us from time to time. We greatly appreciated this and will miss his phone calls.
