John Felix Price, 73, of Stockbridge, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on May 26, 1952, to Emerson Varner Price and Mary Betty Mulkey Price. He lived a full life with family and numerous lifelong friends, many of whom were his hunting buddies.
John moved to Decatur, Georgia as a child when his father was transferred to Atlanta. While in Decatur, John worked diligently as a Boy Scout and earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
After graduating from Columbia High School, John was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably in Frankfurt, Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a devoted patriot whose deep love for his country reflected a lifetime of courage and dedication. His greatest accomplishment during his years of service was the birth of his son, Joel Gregory Price, whom he watched grow with great pride.
John made deep and life-long friendships. If you were blessed to be his friend, you were embedded in his heart and valued beyond measure. One of John’s favorite hobbies was hunting and finish, which he did often with his son, grandsons and friends, filling his freezer to the brim with venison. Music was a constant companion in John’s life, and he knew every word, to every song. His love of dogs always found him with one or two of his own canines close by his side.
John began working at the World Congress Center when it opened. His drive to Atlanta took him under a bridge where some homeless men lived. Seeing their needs stirred John’s heart and started a more than 30-year ministry to the less fortunate. He began taking home-cooked meals to the men on a regular basis, as well as warm clothing and blankets, and soon knew them by name. He developed a deep bond with some of these men that lasted throughout his life.
In 1984, John married the love of his life, Tammy Price, beginning a beautiful journey that would span 41 devoted years. He cherished her deeply, dedicating his life to loving her fully and ensuring she was always cared for. John loved Jesus and his church. After retiring from the State of Georgia, John dedicated most of his time to working at his church, which was one of the great joys of his life.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Emerson Varner Price and Mary Betty Price. He is survived by his beloved wife, Tammara Smith Price; his son Joel Gregory Price (wife Erin); two grandsons: Drake and Denver; granddaughter Dawson; sister Bettye Anne (David) Miles; nieces Brittany (Josh) Guthmann and Bethany (Chris) West; nephews C. J. West and Brody West; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
