Leon Lemuel Turner

Leon was born on October 22, 1946 in Atlanta, GA and raised in Smyrna with his mother, father, and three very close brothers. Leon went to Campbell High School, where he excelled in baseball, football and basketball. In 1964, he attended Union University in Jackson, TN on a baseball scholarship, where he still holds the record for six straight hits in one game. After college, he very proudly joined the Air Force and served as a medic until 1968. Leon spent most of his career in Public Service where he later retired in 2013 from the Cobb County Sheriff department.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ben and Elizabeth Turner and his oldest brother Ben Turner.

He is survived by his wife Gwen Turner, Brother Albert and Brenda Turner, Brother Tommy and Cheryl Turner. Daughter Sheri Bruce and Andy Bruce, Stepdaughters Paige Wages, Felicia Hicks and Michael, Stepsons Joe Bledsoe and Tony Haglar. Ten Grandchildren, Grier Bruce, Lindley Bruce, Eryn Durr, Ryan Durr, Addyson Durr, Madeline Hicks, Tristan Hicks, Bree Stevens, Bayley Benedict and Blakelynn Bledsoe, as well as many very loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Leon loved spending time with family, the Lord, his church family at Pinecrest Baptist Church in McDonough, GA and watching his DAWGS!

A gathering of Leon's family and friends will be held at Horis A. Ward - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia 30281, on August 24, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A celebration of his life will take place at Pinecrest Baptist Church | 175 Foster Drive, McDonough, GA 30253, on August 25, 2026, at 11:00 am. Services will conclude with graveside military honors and a committal service at Georgia Memorial Park | 2000 Cobb Pkwy SE, Marietta, Georgia 30060 on August 25, 2026, at approximately 1:00 pm.
