

After a four-year courageous battle with cancer, Louise Underwood Flemmen died on March 24, 2014 at the age of 94. She is survived by her daughters Arolue Flemmen of Morrow, and Stenette Flemmen Brooks, DVM (Russell) of Madison. Her husband of 27 years, Russell Ole Flemmen predeceased her in 1978.
Born in Moultrie, GA on November, 8, 1919, she was the youngest of eight children of parents Henry Clay and Julia Underwood. There are no surviving siblings, but there are nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren. Louise took great pride in completing her education and taking business courses to further her career in secretarial work. She held several positions, eventually retiring from Clayton County Water Authority after sixteen years of employment.
An active member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Forest Park, GA for 51 years, Louise served in many capacities including church council and treasurer.
An avid gardener, Louise most enjoyed yard work. Other activities included traveling, bowling, sewing and playing cards. A strong and independent woman, she was known for her competitiveness and candid, straight-forward personality.
A graveside service at 10:00 AM will be conducted at Sherwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum, 6841 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro, GA on Saturday, March 29, 2014. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 3250 Mt. Zion Rd., Stockbridge, GA with Pastor George Earhart officiating. Afterward, a reception and celebration of her life will be held in the church fellowship hall.
