Myra Wallace Durrett, age 89 of Atlanta, beloved wife of the late Hiram B. Durrett, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from several health issues. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Wesley and Georgia Entrekin Wallace.
She is survived by sons; Mike (Barbara) Durrett of Monroe, GA and John (Cheri) Durrett of Stockbridge, GA, three grandchildren, Rachel Durrett Little, Zachary Durrett, and Amy Durrett Walls, six great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Myra graduated from Russell High School in East Point in 1946. The next year she married a boy from down the street, Hiram Durrett, who had served in the Army during WWII. They had two sons which Myra finished raising herself after her husband’s untimely death serving as an Atlanta Policeman in 1963.
A lifelong southside Atlanta resident, Myra enjoyed her family and outdoor gardening. She was a charter member of Colonial Hills Methodist Church in East Point that her father helped establish.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 12 noon until
1 p.m. at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home Fairview Chapel, 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, GA 30281, where the funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Interment will immediately follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Atlanta, GA.
