Neil Courtney Millar was born on June 29th, 1957, on Parsley Street in Laventille, Trinidad, to the late Mr. Abram Dacosta and Mrs. Agnes Millar. He was called home on September 22nd, 2022, at the age of 65 years old.
As the middle child of five, Neil acted as a champion and protector of his two younger sisters, a role he would perfect during fatherhood. During his youth, Neil attended St. George’s College, where he represented the school in chess and table tennis, was active in football and cricket, and was a corporal in the Trinidad and Tobago cadet corps. Shortly upon immigrating to the US, Neil joined the Air Force serving from 1977 to 1981 as a USAF Staff Sergeant/Aircraft Electrical Systems Specialist. He married the love of his life, Colleene Cain-Millar, in 1985. In June 1986, he graduated from Lehman College with a B.S. in Computing and Management two months before the birth of his first child.
Neil loved music, movies, and sports but valued academics the most. He was exceptional at math, the type of gifted person to do proofing for fun. Throughout the years, he served as a math tutor for classmates, his niece Monifa, and his children. It was not uncommon for him to blast music throughout the house on a Saturday; after sitting for hours, perfecting playlists. He savored the moments he watched basketball with his two sons, Akili and Avery, and cherished going to a Sunday matinee with his daughter Camille. Above all else, Neil loved watching his children mature. He served as the most potent moral force in their lives, allowing them to grow and change at their rate while doling out good advice whenever needed.
He will be sorely missed.
Neil is survived by his wife, Colleene; his sons Akili and Avery; his daughter Camille; his brothers Vern and Wayne; and his sisters June and Wendy. He is preceded in death by his brother Colvin and his parents.
Rest in power, daddy.
We love you very much.
