

Roland William Hinners, age 77, of Ellenwood, Georgia, died at home Monday, February 24th. Roland was born in Chicago in 1937, raised in Germany with his family of six sisters and a brother, then returned to America in 1957. He married his wife of 52 years, the late Viola Hinners, in 1961 and they established their family in Atlanta.
Roland started at the Georgia D.O.T. as a Tracer, working his way up to become a certified Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering. He retired after 40 years in 2002. He later extended his career with American Engineers, Inc. and W. L. Jordan in Atlanta. Roland loved building things from roads to houses, cars, furniture and almost any other project. He was generous with his time and his talents.
Roland is survived by his son Billy, daughter-in-law Michelle, daughter Bonny, son-in-law George and grandchildren David and Bo. Roland also enjoyed building friendships and leaves many having lasted a lifetime as well as those begun in recent weeks.
A visitation will be held Friday, March 7 from 6-8pm. Funeral service will be Sunday, March 9 at 3pm. Both will be at Bethel United Methodist Church, 245 Fairview Rd, Stockbridge, GA 30281.
