

Pug, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Pug was preceded in death by his daughters, Sandra and Sally Buttrill. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Emily Moye Buttrill, his daughters Susan (Adam) Willis, Stacey (W. Curtis) Anderson, his brother Marc (Athelyn) Buttrill, and sisters Barbara Barber and Macy Roush. Pug was the cherished grandfather of Claire Willis, Amanda (Jordan) Burson, Josh (Chelsie) Willis, Will (Grace) Anderson, Kelly Willis, Alana Abbott, Ben Anderson, and Cara Anderson. He was the proud great-grandfather of Laila and Jordan Burson and Samuel Willis. He is likewise survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
Pug graduated from Southwest DeKalb High School where he was a talented athlete and forged lasting friendships he cherished his entire life. He graduated from Southern Technical Institute and then continued the family business of general contracting throughout his life. He blended his architectural vision into his construction talents through many projects including countless churches and leading the Mt. Carmel Church Builders. His unwavering faith and commitment to service were evident in all that he did. At Mt. Carmel Christian Church Pug served for many years as both a Deacon and Elder and as a Theta Chi youth coach. Pug was extremely involved in his community including serving as Henry County Chamber of Commerce President, Kiwanis Club President and was involved in many other service organizations. In his free time, Pug was a proud pilot who enjoyed flying his family and friends. He also loved spending time at his cherished Soapstone in the North Georgia mountains.
Those who knew Pug will remember him for never saying a bad word about anyone, a consummate peacemaker, and his overwhelming generosity. He loved everyone and was loved by all. He had a rare gift for making a difference in others’ lives, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to take a friend out to eat because that’s what Pug would have done.

A visitation of family and friends will be held for Pug on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. A celebration of his life will take place immediately following visitation at 11:00 AM in Ward's Chapel. Services will conclude with a graveside committal at Fairview Memorial Gardens | 164 Fairview Road, Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.
