She was born in Camillus, NY on November 28, 1936 as the next to youngest of 8 children. After high school, Sylvia came to Georgia to visit her brother who was in the military and never left. She attended business school and started working for Royal Typewriter. She then soon met her husband and started a family. An excellent cook, she made sure there was a feast for every holiday and family gathering and made sure everyone took home plenty of leftovers. One of her proudest accomplishments was her late-in-life career as owner and operator of Moon Mama Candles, where she made beeswax candles by hand for over 25 years. An avid mystery novel reader in her later years, she averaged over four books a week.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard R. Horton, Jr.; her sons, David Neil & Christopher Martin Horton; her parents, Nettie Genevive (nee Rether) and Carlton Frank of Camillus, NY; and siblings, Betty, Robert, Donald, June, Beverly and Margo.
She is survived by her son, Michael Horton; daughters, Amanda Crane and Patricia Horton; and grandchildren, Colin Horton and Corinne Horton; brother, Richard Martin of Camillus, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held graveside.
