In 1961,Tracy and I became college roommates at E.W.S.C. (Gary Hall & later, the new Pierce Hall when it opened).  From the onset, Tracy teased me about my hair receding.  I lost track of him for about five years after his  graduation in 1965.  But in 1970, I was a 1stLt. at Ft.Benning, GA taking courses in Infantry Hall.  At ten minutes after the hour,all the classroom doors open and thousands of men pour out into the massive hallways.  I spied Tracy (Maj. Sheer)leaning against the wall at an intersection and our eyes meet at the same time.  Not a word was said; we knew exactly what the other was thinking and broke out laughing.  He didn't have a hair on his head!  Poetic justice, I would say.  He invited me over to his house that evening for dinner and he said he would pick me up. When I opened the door of my B.O.Q., there stood Tracy wearing this gigantic Afro wig.  It was hilarious.  I just learned that he passed away a year and a day ago. I must have talked to him on the phone not too long before he died.  He said that he had been ill but that he was cancer free and just had to recover from his treatment.  But, I've been concerned and tried to call a couple of times but got no answer. I'll miss you roomy.  Our paths have only crossed four or five times in the past 45 years, but I knew you were out there.  I remember the fun we had back in the day!  My condolences and best Wishes to the family.

I just learned of COL Sheer's passing today, 30 June, 2012.  He was my Battalion Commander when I was a Drill Sergeant assigned to Company E, 5th Battalion, 1st Infantry Training Brigade at Fort Benning Georgia.  I never forgot his caring, concerned and inspirational leadership.  He was one of my few truly great leaders during my army career.  Rest in peace, Colonel Sheer........I salute you!

Tracy was kind enough to escort me to the EWU Military Ball in 1965, along with his date, as my fiance was in the hospital.  I believe, as commander of R.O.T.C, he placed the crown on my head.  Now he has his own crown.  I look forward to seeing him again.  Bobbi Stowell Brown EWU '65

God has made his choice.  My thoughts and love goes out to you Lois and the rest of the family.  Tracy was a wonderful neighbor and will be missed by all.  Memories are the things we have left and let us enjoy them.  R.I.P. Tracy you will not be forgotten.

Dear Lois and all the family,
We are so saddened to learn of the passing of our dear friend Tracy.  We also know what a blessing he was to all of us.  I had the pleasure of working for him for the 4 months before he retired. He was the true Officer and Gentleman. Before I ever met him, I heard it said "if you ever can work for Colonel Sheer, do it.  That was his great reputation because he "truly loved and cared" for everyone.  Lois, it was such an honer to attend your wedding.  We will always remember the joy in your faces.  We loved you from the beginning as well.  We look back at  the time both of you were able to visit us after we moved to Powder Springs and hold dear the last time we got to have a picnic, ride the boat, and spend the day making wonderful memories. He had so many stars in his crown because of all the lives he touched and changed forever. May God bless all of you at this time and always. He is with our Lord and Savior.

"Never forget the golf tournament that Tracy, Pastor Davis, Bruce and myself were in a couple of summers ago.  Tracys' urging and military bearing were in full compliment as we knew we were in high contention for winning.  Unfortunately, the only thing that prevented us from winning that day, was the intervention of a heavenly thunderstorm that wiped out the tournament for the day.  Delay does not mean denial.  God delayed the crowning of a champion for another day, but on September 16th, the champion was eventually crowned.  My wife and I will never forget your presence in our lives.  Sister Lois, we love you and will go with you through momentary grief and everlasting healing.  Colonel Tracy, "ARMY STRONG!"

We have so many wonderful memories of our beloved "Colonel." What an honor to have called him "friend."  It was always such a pleasure to see his warm smile, feel his warm embrace and experience the pleasure of his company. His faith, strength and determination were inspiring. He has won his victory.
