Obituary of Wanda Louise Dickey
Wanda Louise (Johnson) Dickey passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2022 after a more than 20 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born on May 14, 1942 in Rockwood, Tennessee to the late Alvin Wallace Johnson, Sr. and Ruby Viola (Hixson) Johnson. Wanda was one of 13 siblings and preceded in death by her parents, brothers Richard Warren, Alvin Johnson, Jr., Luther Ralph Johnson, Gene Edward Johnson, and sisters Margo Johnson and Betty Faye Spisak. She was also preceded in death by her 11 year old daughter Catherine (Cathy) Louise Dickey, who died of cancer in 1981. Wanda is survived by her husband of 61 years Lavon Dickey, of Locust Grove, Georgia, son Hobert L. Dickey (Susan) of McDonough, Georgia, daughter Susan Renee Cheek (Michael) of McDonough, and son Jeffery Thomas Dickey (Susan) of Locust Grove. She is survived by sisters Patsy Dorn (William), Helen McKinney, Jane Haren (Vince), Mattie Sue Khonsari, Linda Whitworth (Ed) and Evelyn Moree. Wanda is also survived by grandchildren Lauren Cash (Josh), Kristen Dickey, Darryl Dickey (Caroline), Brandon Drake (Hannah), Kyle Dickey, Justin Drake (Ashlyn), Caitlin Drake Keene, and Devon Teknipp (Tyler). She is survived by great grandchildren James Dickey, Brantley Cash, Everley Cash, Scarlett Drake, Kannon Keene, Rhen Drake, Eleanor Teknipp, and Hadden Drake. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Wanda was a devoted wife, loving mother and faithful sister/friend. She loved and worshiped the Lord as a child at White’s Creek Baptist Church, Rockwood, TN, and later at Conley First Baptist Church near Forest Park, GA., and Jodeco Baptist Church, Stockbridge, GA. She led a successful paint and cabinet/trim stain/finish business in the south Atlanta area with many of the large, original Eagles Landing homes to her credit. She began her business after staining trim and cabinets for her husband’s home construction business. Wanda had a servant's heart and took joy in serving others. She loved to keep a clean and tidy home. She was a talented cook delighting in family reunions, holiday get-togethers and other special occasions. Wanda had a wonderful sense of humor topped with a beautiful smile. She was a very attractive woman but humble and reserved. Wanda went out of her way to make sure her family and friends were comfortable, their stomachs full, and each had everything they needed. Her love and joy will be sorely missed. A visitation of family and friends will be held for Wanda on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Horis A. Ward Funeral Home - Fairview Chapel | 376 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia 30281. A celebration of her life will take place at 1:00 PM in Ward's Chapel. Services will conclude with a graveside committal at 2:00 PM at Fairview Memorial Gardens | 164 Fairview Road Stockbridge, Georgia 30281.
