Bernice M. Thomas

Bernice passed away surrounded be her loving family, Tuesday, February 10, 2015, after a short illness. She was 97 years old. She was born to Walter and Mabel Gilgert on March 5, 1917 in Stockton, CA. She graduated from Stockton High School and received her secretarial certificate from Maud Cornwell School. She married Charles (Charley) Thomas Jr., on July 30, 1940 and was married 46 years, until Charley's death. Bernice was an avid S.F. Giants fan and loved reading, doing word-search puzzles, and making yarn coat hangers for everyone she knew. She also enjoyed trips to Lake Tahoe to play the slot machines. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Walter and Earl; Sister, Thelma, 2 son-in-laws, a grandson and a great-granddaughter. She is survived by her children, Phyllis Willingham of Stockton, CA, Marla Verstl of Lodi, CA, Cheryl/Sam (Don) Winter of Kalispell, MT, and Dick (Kathy) Thomas of Stockton, CA; seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, eight great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at Rural Cemetery in Stockton, CA on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to American Heart Assoc. or American Cancer society.
