Our loving mother, Caroline Alcantara, passed away peacefully in Stockton, Ca., at the age of 97.

Caroline graduated from college with an Early Childhood Education Degree, with honors. Thereafter, she taught pre-school for approximately 27 years at various schools in the Stockton Unified School District, including summer school at the migrant camps. She shared with us that her pre-school teaching career was some of the best years of her life.

Caroline and her spouse previously owned the Mexican Restaurant, Enrique’s, in Stockton. She was a very good cook and patrons usually commented that the food was excellent.

After retirement, Caroline typically spent her days outside in her beloved condo garden. Because of her joyful smile at her beautiful roses, flowers and plants, her daughter Linda, while visiting one day, gave her the nickname “SUNSHINE". Caroline loved traveling with her family. There were also many enjoyable weekends spent watching her grandchildren play in soccer, baseball and football games. The talent shows, plays, choirs, and recitals too. Caroline was skilled in knitting, crocheting and sewing - doing that was a great pass-time for her. She loved gifting her children with a beautiful newly crocheted blanket.

Caroline was artistic and insightful. Classes like sculpting, painting, cake decorating, guitar, and even upholstery filled her younger days. She persevered in her own personal growth of learning as she was an avid reader too.

Caroline was a loving mother to three daughters...Linda, Laura, and Anna; 9 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed, and remembered as a woman with a caring heart who always put others before herself.

Caroline will be laid to rest at San Joaquin Cemetery following a Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial.

MY GRANDMA CAROLINE
I’ve been thinking a lot about my Grandma. It’s been hard...challenging to not cry. Being outside has always been therapeutic, and makes me feel fully myself. Now, in these past couple days, it’s helped me cope with loss. I’ve been going over what my Grandma has taught me through her well lived life. I’d like to share with you, a little about someone dear to me.
She wasn’t loud...she was kinda like me. She always showed up. She had many gifts creative & insightful. She was a teacher, a business owner of a yummy Mexican Restaurant, a mother, sister, and someone who loved our God. These are the labels...but even more, she was gifted with so many talents that she shared with others. She never kept what she could do, to herself. She gave life all she had. It was beautiful. It’s the one thing that I wish for my life. To give it all I got, and not let anything go to waste. I’m grateful that my sweet and wonderfully beautiful and blessed grandmother of mine, shared her life with me, and so many others. I love you 🌹Grandma.

When I think about my Grandma there are so many beautiful childhood memories that come to mind. Growing up, she was one of the most important and influential people in my life. She was present at all of my life's major milestones. I always wanted to make her proud. Her love was unconditional and her wisdom and encouragement always helped me see things in myself that only she could bring out. I'll forever be grateful to her for pushing me to be better and reminding me that she always loved me no matter how many times I fell down. She was a Smart, Strong-Willed, Stubborn at times, Amazing, Beautiful Lady who will always be in my heart. Rest in peace Grandma. I love you.
