Born on July 21, 1944, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Daniel was the third child of Jose and Abigail Donato. His childhood in Guadalajara shaped passions that would last a lifetime. His love for soccer and mariachi music connected him to his Mexican roots and brought him joy until his final day. At the age of 10, he began practicing auto body repair –a trade he would master to build a successful career and provide for his family.
In 1961, Daniel journeyed from Mexico to the United States, following his sister Rosario and her family first to San Diego and later, to Tracy. A talented athlete, Daniel utilized the skills and passions he cultivated in Mexico to become a founding player in Tracy’s first soccer league. It was from the soccer field that he noticed Mary and introduced himself.
For 60 years, Daniel and Mary shared a home in Stockton where they raised Daniel Jr., Angelica, and Erica, and welcomed future generations. Together, they built a life rooted in hard work and family.
Whether repairing automobiles, landscaping his yard, or refurbishing collectibles, Daniel approached every task with patience, craftsmanship, and pride. His dedication and attention to detail made him an exceptional auto body repairman–a profession he practiced for 45 years before retiring in 2010.
Beyond his many talents, Daniel was known for his playful spirit, sharp sense of humor, and especially, for his lively storytelling. His children grew up listening to his stories, and later, his grandchildren would sit eagerly to hear Papa's stories as well. His humor and storytelling brought laughter and lessons that remain among the many gifts Daniel leaves behind.
Above all, Daniel was a family man. He found joy providing for loved ones, creating a beautiful home, and watching his family grow. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, kindness, and devotion that will live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
