

Dolores Ortega was born to Alberto Chavez Estrada and Petra Ramirez Estrada in Dixon, California on April 11, 1930. She attended local schools and graduated from Edison High School, going on to nursing school at Stockton College and later attended San Joaquin Delta, University of Pacific Covell College and Stanislaus State University. During her many years of Community Service she worked with the Community Service Organization, El Concilio, Mecha, United Farm Workers and local Catholic Churches. Dolores was tireless in her dedication to improving the lives of Mexican American children and families. She was a member of several local and national associations and was very active in local, state and National Politics. During her many years in the Stockton area she was employed as a Teacher, Laboratory Assistant, Counselor, Water Quality Technician and Advocate. She also owned and operated Lola’s Charter Way Bakery.
Dolores enjoyed many hobbies including oil painting, gardening, sewing, traveling and she particularly enjoyed sharing her hobbies with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in Death by her parents and her husband of 64 years, Moises Marcelo Ortega, her son Marcelo Octaviano Ortega and siblings, Al Estrada, Dorothy Souva, Leo Estrada, Baltazar Christopher Estrada, Javier Estrada, Joe Estrada and Rosalio Estrada. She is survived by her children Elizabeth Destarac, Yvette Loberg (Steve) and Annette Ortega. Surviving grandchildren are Robert, Richard and Melissa Destarac, Veronica Destarac Lemus, Marcelo, Aaron and Holly Ortega, Allison Ortega Schafer Babauta, John Schaefer, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is also survived by siblings, Octaviano (Tavy) Estrada, Otto Estrada (Mabel) and Marina Estrada.
Her family will remember her loving heart and great sense of humor and everyone, especially the grandchildren will miss the evenings, weekends and sumptuous Holiday Celebrations especially New Years Eve.
Visitation will be at Frisbie-Warren & Carroll, 809 N. California St., Stockton, on Thursday December 3rd from 4-6 pm followed by the recital of the Rosary at 6pm. Mass will be celebrated at St. George Catholic Church, 120 W. Fifth St., Stockton, on Friday December 4th at 1pm.
