Donald Edward Iten

Donald Edward Iten passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, at the age of 86 at San Joaquin Hospice House, surrounded by his children after a brief illness. He was born on May 11, 1939, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where he was raised alongside his siblings.

Don graduated from Central High School in 1957. At the age of 19, he moved to California and began working for a bottling company in Los Banos. He eventually settled in Stockton, where he continued his education and dedicated 35 years of service to the State of California Department of Corrections before retiring.

Don valued a simple and private life centered around family. He enjoyed gardening, cutting wood, caring for his yard, and spending quiet time at home. Those who knew him appreciated his strength, independence, and steady presence.

He is survived by his children, Grant Iten (Katina) and Hilary Sanguinetti (Bart); grandchildren Kaitlin, Carly, Thomas, Tyler, and Zachary; brothers Charles Iten (Carol) of North Dakota and John Iten of South Dakota; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Bertha Iten; his sister, Shirley; and his twin brother, David.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Julissa, Blanca, Maria, Brenda, Theresa, Edesli, and Karla for the exceptional love, compassion, and care they provided to Don during his final years. Their devotion brought comfort not only to him, but to the entire family.

Don will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A rosary will be held on Wednesday, May 13th at 5:00 PM at DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California Street, Stockton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Cathedral of the Annunciation, 400 W. Rose Street, Stockton. A committal will immediately follow Mass at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, 719 E Harding Way, Stockton, CA 95204.
