Elvira Abundo Acantilado Balancio, “Elvie” of Stockton, passed away on January 4 at Horizon Health Facility in Fresno. She was 61 years old. Elvie was born in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on July 4, 1957 to Felicisimo Acantilado and Caridad Abundo. She attended school at Patac, Sto. Tomas, La Union and high school in Agoo, La Union. She later graduated from the University of Baguio with a B.S. degree in Science and Medical Technology. She married Cesar Balancio in December, 1983 in Agoo, La Union. She immigrated to the United States in 1985. She had three daughters Krystle, Kimberly, and Katelyn. Elvie worked as a clinical lab scientist for about thirty years beginning at Donja Gregeoria Memorial Hospital and Baltazar Hospital in Agoo, La Union and at BioCal, St. Joseph’s Health Care, and Kaiser in Stockton and Modesto. In addition to her husband and children, Elvie is survived by her older sister, Solly A. Obras of Seattle, WA, her aunt Carolina Acantilado Burgos, and many relatives and good friends in the Philippines and in the US. Elvie was a loving wife who supported her husband’s long US Navy military career. She was a strong and selfless mother who taught her daughters the importance of the Catholic faith and hard work to reach high goals. She was a generous, kind, and caring friend who was like a sister to so many. She touched so many lives by her words, care, friendship, prayers, and support. She will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

DeYoung Shoreline Chapel is honored to serve the Balancio family. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 12- 5pm at DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, a second day of Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 11-6pm with a Rosary at 3pm all at DeYoung Shoreline Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 10am at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Stockton followed by a committal at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery.
