Evelyn Vitan Guiang

Evelyn Vitan Guiang passed away on March 11, 2026. She was born to Lope and Rosalia Guiang in Cavite City, Philippines on May 16, 1935. Evelyn (“Aunt/Zia Mel”) was a long-time resident of Stockton, CA and entered into eternal rest at the age of 90. She was known for her bright spirit, warm heart, and joyful personality. She loved life deeply and cherished her friendships.

She is survived by her sister Isabelita Magtoto and brother Ricardo Guiang (Hue) and was predeceased by her brother Jose Guiang (Yvonne). She was the beloved aunt of Joy Magtoto (Andrea), Christine Guiang (Francisco), Karen Macera (Ricci), Lissa Fisackerly (Kenny), Jason Guiang, Gigie Guiang (Elenor), and the late Gene Guiang (Lanie). Evelyn was great aunt/zia to Erica, Alex, and Nicole Russo, Mila Cardenas, Amanda Sweet (Scott), Kayla LeBlanc (Matt), Raychel Brooks (Jacob), Eric, Brett, and Jeff Fisackerly, Ghillian and Gerard Guiang.

After graduating from the University of the East in Manila, Philippines, Evelyn came to the United States, where she earned a Master of Arts in Education from UCLA and a PhD in Education from the University of the Pacific.

She was a beloved elementary school teacher and reading specialist in Tracy, CA for many years and later served as an adjunct professor at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, CA.

A lifelong educator, Evelyn, along with fellow teachers, founded the Association of Filipino Americans in Education (AFAE), which works to preserve Filipino culture and traditions while promoting the pursuit of higher education.

Evelyn loved traveling the world with her friends and visiting family. She especially treasured the holidays, laughter, and many spirited games of Yahtzee with her close friends. We will miss her sweet personality and generous nature, and we know she is now dancing in heaven with her younger brother.
