Froilan Garcia Vargas of Lathrop, CA. passed away June 4, 2020 at the age of 79, after a difficult and valiant battle with stomach cancer. He leaves behind his wife, Irma Vargas, sons Froylan Vargas Jr., and Mario Vargas, daughter Deanna Luna, granddaughter Bella Luna and son in law Gilbert Luna. Froilan was Born on May 19, 1941 in Villa Madero, a small town in Michoacán Mexico to father Juan Hurtado Vargas and mother Ignacia Rangel Vargas both of whom preceded him in death. He grew up in a large loving family with six brothers and three sisters, before moving to Stockton, CA at the age of seventeen.

It’s in Stockton where he met Irma Santillano while living at the boarding house her grandmother operated. They fell in love soon after, celebrating their commitment to each other on May 15, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and renewing their vows to each other May 15, 2015 on a sunny Hawaiian beach for their 50th anniversary. Froilan and Irma celebrated their 55th Anniversary this year at St. Joseph’s Hospital while listening to their song “Sabor a Mi”.

Froilan is preceded in death by his brothers Abelardo, Carlos and Saul and survived by his sisters Theresa, Umbelina, and Delores as well as his brothers Antonio, Leopoldo, and Juan. Froilan made his home with Irma in Lathrop, CA. where they raised their three children Froylan, Deanna and Mario. His family, he often said, meant more to him than anything else in the world. Determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved, he worked tirelessly for the betterment of the family he loved. Whether picking tomatoes or cherries, building houses or buildings or making potato chips or bottles, Froilan always did what had to be done. After his retirement Froilan liked to sit outside his home greeting neighbors as they walked by, exchanging waves, nods, and conversation. Since his death many of those same neighbors have asked about him, grieving along with his family at the loss of a loved one. Anyone who knew Froilan knew that he was the most loving husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother and son a family could ever ask for, he will be forever in our hearts.
