Illey B. Mitchell

Illey Bryant Mitchell aka “Mitchell” or “Mitch” was born on March 28, 1944, in Shreveport, Louisiana to the union of the late Willie Bryant Mitchell Jr. and Lorrie Elizabeth Johnson-Mitchell. He was the seventh blessing of eight children.

He served in the United States Navy and then the Navy Reserve. He retired after 40 years of service at the East Bay Landscaping Company.

He loved traveling all over the U.S. and used every method of transportation from driving to buses, trains, and airplanes.

He past peacefully in sleep on December 24, 2022.

“Pa Pa” as he was fondly called by his grandchildren and children will be deeply missed by all. He was preceded in death by his five siblings: Carl Mitchell, Claude Mitchell, Norma Mitchell-Cox, Wilma Mitchell-Preston, Almeater Mitchell-Lucas; dear companion; Katherine Britt; a granddaughter; Ashley Khan-Britt.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters: Debra Britt of Pittsburg, CA; Lisa Britt-Yarns (Marcus) of Sacramento, CA; one son, Scott Britt of Richmond, CA; one grand-daughter, Aliyah Gray of Sacramento, CA; one grandson, Bryce Gray of Austin, TX; one sister, Joyce Faye Orr of Shreveport, LA; and one brother John Mitchell (Jeanette) of Upper Marlboro, MD; and a host of other family and friends.
