

Jane Kamps is survived by Oliver Baumbach; her children, Jeanne Kamps Lindwall, John Edwards Kamps, Mark Elizabeth Bradford, and Thomas Mark Kamps; her sister, Mary Doyle; granddaughters, Laura Bradford, Kirstin Lindwall, Tracy Lindwall, Kathryn Duke and husband, Christopher Duke; and, great-grandson, Jason Bradford Morris. She was preceded un death by her husband, Clarence Kamps, of Linden, California in 2003.
Jane Kamps was born on December 11, 1922, to Roswell and Elizabeth Garst of Coon Rapids, Iowa. She attended Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota form 1940-1943. Jane Garst left Carleton to teach school in order to help the war effort. She transferred to Stanford University earning her BA degree in Social Science in 1946. Following graduation, she worked for War Assets in Stockton. Jane Garst continued her education at the College of the Pacific (U.O.P.) where she met her husband, Clarence Kamps. They were married on September 17, 1948. They resided in Coon Rapids, Iowa from 1948-1952 where Jeanne (1949) and John (1951) were born. In 1952, the Kamp family returned to Stockton, California where Mary (1953) and Tom (1956) were born. Jane and Clarence Kamps enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Following the death of Clarence (Clancy) Kamps in 2003, Jane delighted in life with Oliver Baumbach during her last 15 years of life.
Because Jane Kamps was an accomplished gardener, she returned to Delta College in Stockton, California to study Horticulture. Her pursuits included helping to establish the Linden 4-H Club. She was active in the Linden Garden Club from 1963 until her death, serving as president and on various committees including the Conservation and Beautification committee, and as the Linden High School Gardens chairman. She was a National Council Landscape Design Critic following her completion of Landscape Design Study at Delta College, Stockton, California in 1977. She loved to write the Linden Garden Club Newsletter. After earning her E.M.T. certificate and an ambulance driver’s certificate, Jane Kamps led Linden Volunteer Emergency Services for several years. She was awarded the Lions Achievement Award in 1977 for her community service activities.
Jane Kamps was an accomplished horticulturalist, water color artist, and community volunteer. Making baby bibs was a favorite activity of hers. But most of all, she loved to read and thought of herself as a book-worm. As fast as she could read a book or a cookbook, she was donating the book to the Linden Library – books constantly flowed through her home.
A funeral service is scheduled for July 17, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at the Kamps family plot in the Linden Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Her Life Memorial Service at 12:00 p.pm. at the Stockton Hilton, 2323 Grand Canal Blvd in Stockton, California. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Jane Garst Kamps. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library Linden, California, 19059 E. Main Street (Hwy 26), Linden, California 95236-9492. The family wants to thank her long-time caretaker, Sandy McCarver, for taking such good care of Jane Kamps and Ollie at their Linden home.
