Janet Marie Holl, known to many as “Jan”, was born Janet May Wilson on 14 December, 1943, in Modesto, California. She was the second child of parents, Ida Wilson, a homemaker and Claude Wilson Sr., a union railroad worker, whom moved to Stockton shortly after her birth. She attended both grammar and high school in Stockton and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1961 with her varsity letter in basketball.
Shortly after graduation, she married her longtime boyfriend, Thomas Zaremba with whom she had two children, Gina Marie in 1966 and Mark Thomas in 1968. Following their divorce, Jan worked in the medical field and eventually remarried William “Bill” Holl in 1984. Together they had one child, Eric William, born the same year, and ran a successful insurance fraud investigation firm for many years, before she returned to the medical field, joining the executive business offices of Kaiser Permanente in 2001. Jan absolutely loved her position with Kaiser and made many life-long friends there before retiring in 2016.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Stockton, and was heavily involved with both the sanctuary choir and worship arts team during the latter part of her life. She was an overtly generous person and friend to all, an avid animal lover, with a particular affinity for cats, and in her spare time enjoyed camping, fishing, reading, the theatric arts, professional football, and travel. Sadly, she was prone to severe respiratory illness in her final years and was called home to the Lord on 18 July, 2024, at the age of 80.
Janet was preceded in death by her beloved brother Lt. Commander Claude D. Wilson Jr., a Naval Air Officer and fighter pilot casualty of the Vietnam Conflict. She is succeeded by her husband of 40 years, Bill, and her biological children listed above, as well as her children by marriage: Nathan Holl, Dara Holl, son-in-law Peter Rothermel, daughter-in-laws: Michele Zaremba and Kristine Holl, her grandchildren: Melissa Zaremba, Gianna Zaremba, Judah Holl, Josiah Holl, Kainoah Rodrigues, Ryan Rothermel and Tyler Rothermel, her great grandchild Cy Rothermel, her godson Christopher Cazale, the eldest son of her oldest and dearest friend Paula, and Marina Crippen, closest friend of her son Eric, whom she looked on as her own.
She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. There will be a Celebration of Life / Memorial Service for Jan on Saturday, 17 August, 2024 at 2 pm. The service will be held at First Baptist Church located at 3535 N. El Dorado Street, in Stockton, in the auxiliary chapel, adjacent to the main worship center with a lunch reception immediately following. All who knew her are welcome to attend.
