We have been good friends with Janice and Mike for more than twenty years, and it is a blessing when neighbors are friends. They helped us a lot during these years in many ways, and even cooked for us when my wife, Nataliya, was terminally ill. Our friendship was initiated and strengthened by the friendship of our children, Seana and Andrey (together with Amanda, Elizabeth, and other kids), who were raised by the beautiful “village” of our neighborhood.
Janice, we will miss your boiling energy, kind heart, and happy smile, but they will live on in our memories.

As adults, every time Seana, Amanda, and I meet, we remember our childhood as a bunch of kids running around Fulton St. We had an amazing childhood, in no small part to Janice. Her caring and loving smile will always be remembered and missed. Janice will always live on in our memories and hearts.

Janice you were the best big sister any one could ever have. Mom said you looked after me and Kevin like a little mom and I followed you everywhere. I remember the two of us riding our bikes to the library every week so I could get my precious mystery books. We had so much fun many afternoons riding the tandem bike to Oak Park to play tennis. At the beach you always rode a tube out past the waves with me. We’d stay out there for hours bobbing on the current even though you wanted to be on the shore working on your tan.

I’m so proud of you for so many reasons but especially for the way you helped so many families through your work at Walton Special Center and later at PEDS. Helping others came naturally to you. There are so many people (social media influencers, politicians, actors) telling others how to live their lives, how to dress, what to wear, what to buy, etc. It’s such a contrast to your genuine goodness. YOU HELPED DISABLED CHILDREN TO LIVE THEIR BEST POSSIBLE LIVES BECAUSE THEY MATTERED.
I will never forget you Janice Leary. You are forever in my heart. 💜

Janice was a dear friend and a fabulous teacher. She worked diligently to help her students. I was lucky to share an office with her and a friendly chat each time she got her hair done. She shared unselfishly with anyone who needed her help. I will forever remember her and am so sad at her passing way before her time. She will be dearly missed as much as her beautiful smile will be missed Maggie
