Josefina R. Uriza died peacefully on July 1, 2018, at the age of 103. Josefina is survived by her loving daughter Nancy Uriza and her sister Maria del Carmen R. Mendez. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ignacio Uriza, her son, Gilbert Uriza, siblings, Enrique Rivera, Felix Rivera, Buenaventura Rivera, Magdalena Rivera, Juanita Beileson, and Maria Dolores Blake.
Josefina was born September 9, 1914 to Jesus and Maria del Refugio Rivera. She retired from Tri-Valley Cannery. Josefina, was an excellent cook and shared her joy of cooking with others. She enjoyed canning seasonal fruits and vegetables. Josefina had a green thumb and enjoyed
the fruits of her labor. She was a generous person who had a love for family and friends. She often played her harmonica or mini-keyboard and serenaded them, never having taken a lesson. She had a deep devotion
to Our Lady of Guadalupe. A proud moment of Josefina's life was when she became a naturalized citizen at the age of 86. She always enjoyed her trips to Jackson Rancheria.
The family would like to express special thanks to caregivers Cristina and her niece Maria del Refugio. Josefina, was loved by many and will be missed deeply.
DeYoung Memorial Chapel is honored to serve the Uriza family. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 2pm-6pm followed by a Rosary at 6pm at DeYoung Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10am at Cathedral of the Annunciation followed by a
committal at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery.
